Student Profile

The typical Key School student in both the Nine Month and Summer Terms is an individual who is not reaching his or her academic potential. Many Key School students have been diagnosed with learning differences and special needs. Despite these diagnoses, many are also above grade level in some areas. Key School’s flexible scheduling accommodates the strengths and weaknesses of all its students.

Academic deficits, speech and auditory deficits, and ADD/ADHD are the three most common diagnoses. We cater to each child specifically to meet his or her needs. Our 4:1 average student/teacher ratio enhances the Key School practice of individualized scheduling. 

As a rule, Key School students benefit from special scheduling due to problems with one or more of the following:

  • Processing and Production of Oral Language
  • Organization Skills
  • Executive Function Disorder

International Students

Key School is especially suited to educate international students for whom English is a second language.

Our curriculum meets all state requirements for graduation with a high school diploma, and includes math, science, history, and SAT/ACT preparation. The school also provides an outstanding and extensive English curriculum.

English instruction includes vocabulary, grammar, mechanics, composition, reading fluency and comprehension, classical literature, oral communication, TOEFL preparation (if needed), word attack, Greek and Latin roots, and speech. These courses are designed to aid English learners in developing language skills quickly and effectively.
